Review Policy

updated as of May 2018

CURRENT REVIEW STATUS: I will accept requests for reviews from JULY 1ST 2018.

If you would like me to review a book, please send me an email at:
keira.signingon@gmail.com

This is also where you should contact me regarding other promotional posts, interviews etc. which I am more than happy to consider doing.

Please include the following information:

  • a link to the Goodreads profile of this book (if there is not one yet, please include a blurb and cover)
  • the genre and target audience
  • any information about required timings
  • the format of the book and how you would like to send me a copy
  • any information about extra things you would like (e.g. a quote for front matter, linking to a giveaway etc.) and personalised requests
  • if you are available to do an interview or some other kind of guest post in addition to a review in the case that I rate your book 4 or more stars (I need an answer even if it’s a “no”)
  • any relevant trigger warnings
  • why you think I would like the book

IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE ALL OF THIS INFORMATION I WILL NOT RESPOND TO YOUR REQUEST, AS IT SHOWS A LACK OF CONSIDERATION.

I will reject any requests which do not align with my preferences. Guidelines for what books I will accept can be found below, as can information on expected timelines, my guarantees and information relevant to guest posts.

My Guarantee and Full Disclosure

Regardless of my answer, you should expect a response within two weeks UNLESS YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE. I will require an absolute minimum of a month to review your book or three months if it is German. However, unless you have a specific deadline, I am more likely to give myself a two-month timeframe. If you would like a review on a specific date, that may also be arranged, within reason.

I will always review your book on both Goodreads and my blog. If I DNF your book I will not review it on Amazon as I do not rate books I do not finish. I award books more stars when rating on Amazon as they are particularly harsh with what they consider a positive rating. Please refer to my Star Ratings page for information on how I rate books. Reviews will always be posted on Amazon UK (unless a German book, in which case they will be posted on Amazon DE), but other amazon reviews can also be arranged upon request. Once I have agreed to post a review, you may not rescind the offer at any time as I reserve the right to post my own opinions without censure.

I RETAIN THE RIGHT TO TERMINATE MY AGREEMENT TO REVIEW YOUR BOOK AT ANY POINT FOR ANY REASON.

In some cases if I am intrigued by your book but feel it might be triggering for me or otherwise feel unable to review it, I will offer to do a promotional post (such as an interview). One example of when I did this was with Rarity from the Hollow by Robert Eggleton. You can find that post here if you would like an example of what that might look like.

I may also include your book in a spotlight post in addition to doing a review if you a) ask me to or b) I have one planned already and if I do so I will send you a link. If I rate your book 4 or more stars, it is my personal preference to post a guest post in conjunction with a review, but this is not necessary.

Once I have finished your book I will email you and I will email you again once I have posted a review.

Am I Likely to Review Your Book?

Formats I am currently accepting: ebooks (preferably .mobi, but others are okay), audiobooks (preferably audible code), graphic novels/comics (preferably as a PDF), but my personal preference is ebooks.

I will review books by any author (e.g. self-published, small publisher, major publisher etc.).

I accept both ARCs and copies of books which have already been published (recently or ages ago, both are fine) and have no personal preference.

I will review books in both English and German, but my personal preference is English as that is my more confident language.

I will read picture books, middle grade, YA, NA and Adult books, but I do not read erotica fiction.

I will also read most genres, but my preferred genres are Fantasy and Contemporary. Sci-Fi and Historical Fiction reviews are also generally available, with the exception of dystopia. I do not read mystery novels, horror or comedy.

Random Specifics of What I Like/Dislike

  • I love books set in the 1800s (this also includes books set in the future or alternate worlds with a society similar to that of the Victorians).
  • Characters really make or break a story for me and the setting comes second. Plot comes after that most of the time.
  • I really like lush prose (e.g. The Night Circus) but I also enjoy when books are really fast-paced and exciting.
  • I really enjoy romance in books (like a lot) but I don’t require it to enjoy a book at all. If I don’t like the romance, I tend to dislike the book more
  • I enjoy when books have realistic diversity.
  • I love books with developed and well thought out settings and worlds.
  • I am not a massive fan of dystopian worlds, but I like sci-fi set in space or many years in the future.
  • I dislike books set in high schools, although I don’t mind books about characters that age (basically: I don’t like school drama).
  • I dislike books which include cheating and I don’t like angsty, dramatic romances. I like romances with a realistic amount of conflict and development.
  • refuse to read books which include student-teacher relationships or boss-subordinate relationships, incest or other illegal relationships.

If you are still not sure whether I would like your book, I recommend checking out my Goodreads profile to see what I have thought of other books or what other books are on my TBR. You can also find my current TBR here.

Reviews and Spotlights/Promos

I reserve the right to reject reviewing books for whatever reason, but this will mostly only happen if I do not think I will be the best person to review your book. I also reserve the right to change my mind about reviewing your book at any point for any reason. If this happens I guarantee that you will be emailed immediately and I will disclose as much of my reason as I deem suitable.

I may also include your book in a spotlight post in addition to doing a review if you a) ask me to or b) I have one planned already.

I will also offer you the opportunity to do a guest post (such as an interview or some other kind of creative post) if I rate your book 4 or more stars. If you receive such an offer, you may give me ideas as to what you would like to do, but I will ultimately give two or three options which I think would most suit my blog. I expect guest posts to be completed no more than two weeks after agreeing upon one and they must be submitted to me 72 hours before an agreed upon posting date, unless otherwise discussed.  The author retains the right to decide to terminate this agreement at any point before the deadline for any reason and does not need to disclose their reason, but must inform me immediately.

I will always review books on Goodreads and my blog. Unless I DNF your book I will also review your book on Amazon UK or Amazon DE depending on the language. Reviews on other amazons are available upon request.

Thank you, Keira.
